Most of the members of McKINDRED have been in the business of music for as long as they can remember.
How does living in the North impact the lives of musicians? Does living four and a half hours from the next large centre serve us in anyway? Does it hamper development? I say living in the north has its perks - we know most of the music community, where folks can be found cheering on their artist friends. It is a really diverse musical crowd and has some really dedicated music supporters. The GP music collective is forming into a strong and sustainable source of music talent.
However, sometimes for a brief moment, we say "peace out" to GP and head south... or in this case, west. Larger cities have invested so much in the growth of their artistic scenes and offer a lot of learning opportunities. Accessing the latest in industry news and performances first hand has proven to be a really impactful way to grow. Building a wider community, outside of the Peace Region, draws attention to the artists of the North - perhaps reminding folks that music stems from all corners, not just in the major urban centres. So we're off to BC for a skiff... to connect with those in the industry that are there for it all - the good, the up-and-coming and the lifers that have paved the way.
These weekends of music and information light a spark - connecting with fellow artists and industry types, you'll find us chatting all things music - all day long. This is something that only a few truly understand. Perhaps you get what I mean. Here's to a weekend FULL of musical moments that remind us all what being an artist is really about - connection. Stay tuned to our socials for weekend updates...
The McKINDRED sound is anchored by the signature harmony singing of Kelsi McInnes & Brooke Loewen. Building on this Folk/singer-songwriter foundation, the band also features the percussion artistry of Dave Oostra, the soulful guitar-playing of Arjun Roy and the stellar bass playing of Colin Monroe.
In 2020 band entered the studio with Arjun (Producer, Recordist & Mix Engineer) in order to capture the spirit of their live show. They further defined their Americana sound on the debut album ASCEND (2021) and were ready to share their artistic vision with the world. The band is currently working on creating their second album.
The goal: to connect with their audience and listeners, leave them feeling energized and uplifted, and to make music that lasts.
