BIOGRAPHY
At the heart of McKINDRED's musical tapestry are the captivating harmonies of Kelsi McInnes and Brooke Loewen, setting the stage for a journey through Americana, Folk, Pop, Rock and singer-songwriter landscapes. These harmonies intertwine with the percussion wizardry of Dave Oostra, the soul-lifting guitar tones of Arjun Roy, and the lofty bass grooves of Colin Monroe. United by Kelsi's evocative songwriting, McKINDRED's sound is a breath of fresh air: vibrant and irresistible.
In 2020, the band went into the studio with a clear mission: capture the raw essence of their live performances. The result was their debut album, "ASCEND," released in 2021. But the journey is far from over. The band is currently in the studio crafting their second album. "This album cuts deeper, perhaps feels more intentional. Our sound has grown into soulfulness layered with raw Americana edge" states McInnes, principal songwriter and co-producer. Soulful and rootsy elements will weave with their signature sound, aiming to deepen their connection with audiences, showcasing their musical evolution.
The past few years have been a thrilling ride for McKINDRED. Notable highlights include rocking JUNOfest as part of the JUNO Awards (2023), singing with the crowds of Bear Creek Folk Festival (2022), alongside luminaries like Steve Earle and the Dukes, The Trews, Serena Ryder, Blackie and the Rodeo Kings, and Corb Lund. McKINDRED was chosen for the Canadian Country Music Awards (CCMA) Off-Country Music Festival concert series in Calgary, as well as CCMA Mentorship Delegates (2022), solidifying their place in the Canadian music scene. They graced the stage at the Bear Creek Folk "Un-festival," (2021), sharing the limelight with esteemed acts like Maria Dunn, Celeigh Cardinal, and Matt Anderson. McKINDRED won the band category of the Bear Creek Folk Festival songwriting competition with their crowd-loving track "Calls My Soul" (2020).
McKINDRED's journey also resonates on the airwaves, with features on CBC Radio's "The Key of A" with Tarik Robinson, Edmonton's 89.3 The Raven, as well as play on CKUA, 91.7 Erin Radio and Peace FM 94.5/104.1.
McKINDRED isn't just a band; it's a harmonious journey that leaves listeners uplifted and transformed.
