BIOGRAPHY
What would happen if Noah Kahan and Elle King had a love child? Perhaps it already happened… meet McKINDRED.
In the world of McKINDRED, the vibrant and irresistible sounds of “Americana" flourish, with captivating melodies, hauntingly beautiful harmonies and spirited performances. McKindred’s front-woman and songwriter Kelsi McInnes wastes no time connecting with her audiences with her soulful voice and sharp wit. Together with the band; Brooke Loewen, Dave Oostra, Arjun Roy, Colin Munroe and Kristy Petersen, they take to the stage like an ocean wave, bringing life to the music and grooving the night away.
In 2020, the band went into the studio with a clear mission: capture the raw essence of their live performances. The result was their debut album, "ASCEND," released in 2021. But the journey is far from over. The band is currently in the studio crafting their second album. "This album cuts deeper, perhaps feels more intentional. Life definitely presented some moments where I had to dig deep to get it all out. There's soulfulness layered with a raw edge " states McInnes, principal songwriter and co-producer. Americana and roots elements weave with their signature harmony sound, aiming to deepen their connection with audiences, showcasing their musical evolution.
The past few years have been a thrilling ride for McKINDRED. Notable highlights include being invited to perform at this years Bear Creek Folk Fest (Aug 2024), a sold-out show at Better Than Freds (March 2024), Kelsi McInnes partaking in the award-winning Blue Jay Sessions songwriting rounds (Mar 2024), rocking JUNOfest as part of the JUNO Awards (2023), singing on the stages of Bear Creek Folk Festival (2022), alongside luminaries like Steve Earle and the Dukes, The Trews, Serena Ryder, Blackie and the Rodeo Kings, and Corb Lund. McKINDRED was chosen for the Canadian Country Music Awards (CCMA) Off-Country Music Festival concert series in Calgary, as well as CCMA Mentorship Delegates (2022), solidifying their place in the Canadian music scene. McKINDRED won the band category of the Bear Creek Folk Festival songwriting competition with their crowd-loving track "Calls My Soul" (2020).
McKINDRED's journey also resonates on the airwaves, with features on CBC Radio's "The Key of A" with Tarik Robinson, Edmonton's 89.3 The Raven, 104.7 2DayFM, as well as play on CKUA, 91.7 Erin Radio and Peace FM 94.5/104.1.
