BIOGRAPHY
The McKINDRED sound is anchored by the signature harmony singing of Kelsi McInnes & Brooke Loewen. Building on this Americana/Folk/singer-songwriter foundation, the band also features the percussion artistry of Dave Oostra, the soulful guitar-playing of Arjun Roy and the sublime bass playing of Colin Monroe. These artists combined with Kelsi's songwriting bring a sound that is fresh and vibrant. With two power-house female singers fronting the band - it wraps the audience in harmonic layers and rhythms that are undeniably moving.
In 2020 band entered the studio with Arjun (Producer, Recordist & Mix Engineer) in order to capture the spirit of their live show. They further defined their sound on the debut album ASCEND (2021) and were ready to share their artistic vision with the world. The band is currently working on creating their second album, continuing to discover their sound, perhaps with a bit more more soul and a touch more roots added to the mix. The goal: to connect with their audience and listeners, leave them feeling energized and uplifted, and to make music that lasts.
The last few years have found McKINDRED on an upwards trajectory. Major highlights include; in February 2020, McKINDRED placed first in the band category of the Bear Creek Folk Festival songwriting competition for their song "Calls My Soul" and in November 2021, they were awarded the City of Grande Prairie Artist Development Grant to assist in their artist endeavours, this assisted in the creation of their music video "Gone." The summer of 2021, they played the Bear Creek Folk "Un-festival" with headlines such as Maria Dunn, Celeigh Cardinal, Matt Anderson and Natalie MacMaster. In the summer of 2022, they played the Canada Day (July 1, 2022) performance for the City of Grande Prairie with headlining acts Jay Walker and Clayton Bellamy. They also played the Bear Creek Folk Festival (Aug 13-15, 2022) with headliners such as Steve Earl and the Dukes, the Trews, Serena Ryder, Blackie and the Rodeo Kings and Corb Lund. McKINDRED was also selected for the Canadian Country Music Awards Off-Country Music Festival concert series (Sept 10, 2022) in Calgary, as well as selected as CCMA Mentorship Delegates. They have been featured on CBC Radio's the Key of A with Tarik Robinson, as well on Edmonton's 89.3 The Raven, and play on 91.7 Erin Radio and Peace FM 94.5/104.1.
